SURABAYA POST - Until now, there have been 19 provinces with residents whose level of nutrition is below average. The finding was uncovered by Coordinating Minister for People’s Wealth Agung Laksono at the Indonesian Nutritionists Association’s (Persagi) 24th National Congress: A Scientific Meeting and Nutrition Festival at Gramedia Expo, Surabaya on Friday, November 13. Unfortunately, Laksono did not specifically mention the names of the 19 provinces.
“There have been a lot of malnutrition cases emerging and becoming a national issue. This is partly caused by the insufficient roles of nutritionists,” he said.
Nutrition, according to Laksono, is the key factor in national development. In order to cater people’s need of nutrition, the roles of nutritionists are required.
There are various factors to nutrition issues, including bad lifestyle which is where nutritionist guidance is highly needed.
Laksono also firmly stated that a nutritionist should play five roles in the same time. The roles include professionally raising awareness on nutritional needs, being a motivator, dynamically raising the awareness using the right technology, establishing the lines with advocators and being the drafter and initiator in medical clinics.
“If the roles are well-played, at least nutrition issues could be overcome,” Laksono said.
However, he also said the work on nutrition issues could not be done in the same way in each area. “The condition and the situation would certainly be different. Therefore, it could not be implemented in a similar way,” Laksono said.
