LNG from Senoro Possible for Export

VIVAnews - The Indonesian government is still exporting LNG from the Donggi-Senoro project albeit the priority will be on domestic supply.

"We agree about the export. The bottom line is that the project is going on," said Energy Minister Darwin Zahedy Saleh on Monday, Nov 9, in Jakarta.

In the meantime, state oil and gas company Pertamina, as the project developer, calls on guarantee from the government as regards domestic supply.

Pertamina President Director Karen Agustiawan stated the four guarantees will be proposed to government. First, the government should give protection if the investor of the project brings claim against the company. Second, if the project lacks investment, the government must prepare to seek another financing.

Gas buyers, mainly state electricity company Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), fertilizer company Pupuk Sriwijaya and Panca Amara Utama, should be prepared. The oil company also wants the government to ensure about investment return over domestic and international price disparity.

"We will be evaluating the absorption level in the domestic market as well as the financing," Oil and Gas Director General Evita Herawati Legowo said.

She expected that by January 2010 the project can be launched so that, "by 2013, the first production is ready."
