Anti-graft Commission

Indonesian President Should Intervene: Imam

VIVAnews - Notable Indonesian figures such as sociologist Imam Prasodjo and Islamic scholar Komarudin Hidayat offered guarantee over the detention of two Indonesian anti-graft heads Chandra M Hamzah and Bibit Samad Riyanto.

Both Imam and Komarudin stated that Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should intervene in the case involving the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). They believed that the arrest of the two KPK leaders is not a common criminal case.

"If hands and feet are against each other, than the head must take action over the clash," said Komarudin metaphorically as quoted from tvOne on Friday, Oct 30.

The detention of the two leaders, in Komarudin's opinion, indicated an attempt of impairing KPK is underway. "I should support KPK," he said.

Imam Prasodjo also noted that the Indonesian president should seriously handle the KPK issue. "If [no action is taken], the issue could be a backfire," he said.

Chandra and Bibit are now behind the bars of the Indonesian Police Crime and Investigation Division for violating authority.
