Peugeot Assembling Factory Active in 2011

VIVAnews - Astra International - Peugeot will reestablish the completely knock down (CKD) assembling factory for Peugeot products, which is predicted to start in 2011 or 2012.

After a halt in 2005 due to the uncontrollable euro exchange rate, the Peugeot assembling factory will be reactivated.

"[The company] is conducting a feasibility study, but we sent a proposal to the brand holder in France," said Contantinus Herlijoso, Astra International - Peugeot chief executive officer in Jakarta on Tuesday night, Sept. 8.

The proposal will be given to the brand holder in the end of 2009 according to Herlijoso. "Therefore, there may be a fix plan in mid 2010," he added.

The brand holder will study the proposal, and if they response is positive, it will take a year or two for the preparation. "The plan is to use Gaya Motor facility because it is ready," he said.

Meanwhile, Peugeot sale this year is predicted to reach only 70 units, 15 units less than last year sale. "Since 2002, [the sale] tends to drop," he said. But, the company is optimistic that the 2010 sale will increase.
