Six Swine Flu Patients Identified

VIVAnews - Until Sunday, June 28, 2009, the government has recorded six swine flu patients, who are positively infected by the H1N1 virus which commonly known as the swine flu, in Indonesia.

The patients are being hospitalized at the Local General Sanglah Hospital in Bali and Sulianti Saroso Hospital for Infectious Disease in Jakarta.

Health Minister Siti Fadilah Supari said three patients, GC (male, 12 years old, Australian citizen), MT (male, 14 years old, Australian citizen) and JA (male, 10 years old, Australian citizens), were being treated in Bali.

Meanwhile, three other patients are being medicated at Sulianti Saroso Hospital, namely AG (female, 18 years old, Indonesian citizen), TP (male, 19 years old, Indonesian citizen), and AM (female, 22 years old, Indonesian citizen). AG and TP are siblings who just arrived from Singapore while AM had just been to Australia.

“This means the virus spreads outside Indonesia. There is not any human-to-human infection inside the country”, Supari said to the reporters in Jakarta on Sunday, June 28. “The six patients are in a good condition”.

She also said the government was still working on fighting the flu spread, including tracking 47 people who were reportedly infected. “But after they were checked, the results were negative”, she said.

Related to the plan of a foreign company to establish a swine flu vaccine factory, Supari asked to postpone the plan since the government was still able to handle the virus with the available Tamiflu stock.
