Wealth of Presidential Candidates Assessed

VIVAnews- The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will today, May 19, clarify wealth belonging to three presidential candidates. According to KPK Deputy Head Haryono Umar, three teams are assigned to check with Yudhoyono’s house in Cikeas, West Java, Jusuf Kalla’s in Menteng, and Megawati’s on Jalan Teuku Umar, Menteng, Jakarta.

The State Authorities’ Wealth Report (LHKPN) will be the teams’ guidance. “They have brought the LHKPN and clarified evidences that have been submitted”, Umar told VIVAnews on Tuesday, May 19.

At the presidential candidates’ homes, Haryono said, the KPK teams will look at and clarify the LHKPN with the available data. “We will look at the physical condition of the properties and check whether there is something that has not been reported yet”, he said.

According to Umar, it does not mean that the presidential candidates have to show all of their valuables. “They can report their land plots and the buildings using the assessed property value; the vehicles according to their purchasing prices; the savings, giro and the insurance using the related document,” he said.

Haryono went on by saying that each team consists of five people and the structural officials, who are the deputies and the directors. Meanwhile, the Head of KPK will not join the teams. “The teams will leave for the targeted spots all at once from the KPK office”, he said.

Law on Presidential Elections requires president and vice presidential candidates to report their wealth. The requirement is specified in Article 5a and Article 14.
