VIVAnews - The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) Head Syamsul Ma’arif said the government is in need of Rp 1.3 trillion worth of fund for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of damages inflicted by the earthquake occurred in West Java last September.
The fund will be used to fix houses and public facilities defected by the earthquake.
Ma’arif delivered the statement after attending the meeting on the updates of West Java disaster mitigation at the Vice Presidential palace on Thursday, January 28. “BNPB will cover the need while waiting for the fund allocated from the State Budget,” he said.
He also expects the rehabilitation and reconstruction fund to be taken from the State Budget because the agency’s 2010 budget of Rp 3.5 trillion will be used to cover damages in any possible disaster. “The Finance Minister will try to use the State Budget to cater the need of fund,” Ma’arif said.
Severely damaged houses will each receive Rp 15 million of compensation while houses with fair detriments will be given Rp 10 million and slightly damaged houses will be provided with Rp 1 million.
To compensate for severe and fair breakages, the government will disburse fund from the State Budget while mild damages will be compensated by the fund taken out of the Regional Budget.
West Java Governor Ahmad Heryawan said in 14 regencies/ cities hit by the earthquake, 46,813 houses were severely and fairly defected. However, out of the total number, only 5,379 houses have been repaired. Meanwhile, out of 94,946 houses with light damages, only 43,980 have been fixed.
He also said the government of West Java has used a certain amount of fund to perform the restoration. Rp 217.6 billion was coming from BNPB, Rp 30.3 billion was provided by the facilitator and Rp 240 billion was taken out of West Java regional budget. “It’s Rp 460.6 billion in total,” Heryawan, who is also a politician from the Justice & Prosperity Party, said.
The disaster mitigation meeting was led by Vice President Boediono amid the demonstration occurring outside the palace. The meeting was also attended by the Coordinating Minister for People’s Welfare Agung Laksono, Social Affairs Minister, Salim Segaf Aljufri and Finance Minister Sri Mulyani.
