VIVAnews - The G-20 countries are requested not to issue policies which tend to limit imports from other countries, especially from fellow member countries.

The appeal is aimed at preventing the economy of member countries from falling sharply. One of the efforts for boosting the economy is to increase exports and lower imports to create balance.

The issue, said Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, was one of the most crucial agenda in both the finance ministerial and presidential G-20 meetings. During the meeting, it was requested that all countries present do not issue policies siding with protectionism.

"If all countries have desire to export only, there will not be importing countries, which means that there will be no buyers. Everything will be stuck. We are discussing the issue. The world must solve this matter together," said Sri Mulyani in Jakarta, Nov 19.

Should all countries fail to cooperate, Mulyani went on, there will not be any transaction. "Thus, the countries' leaders will continue the attempts. We should meet again to report by April 31, 2009," she said.
