Jakarta to Build Mall-Integrated MRT

VIVAnews - The development of Jakarta Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) going from Lebak Bulus to Dukuh Atas will be connected to shopping centers across the line in order to make it comfortable for the people and to prevent traffic congestion.

“The integration with the malls will be developed in basic design implementation,” PT MRT Director, Tribudi Rahardjo said in Jakarta.

The integration will be established by building connecting systems like direct sky walks to shopping centers so that the passengers will not have to step into the road which is expected to eliminate congestion. One of the malls that could be connected to a sky walk is Blok M Mall, South Jakarta.

Others include Cilandak Town Square (Citos), Plaza Semanggi, Plaza Senayan and Plaza FX.

Rahardjo said various locations of MRT stations had been set which are Lebak Bulus, Fatmawati, Cipete, Haji Nawi, Blok A, Blok M, Sisingamaraja, Senayan, Istora Senayan, Bendungan Hilir, Setiabudi dan Dukuh Atas.

South Jakarta Transportation Sub Agency Head Tedy Sutisna said Blok M MRT station would be integrated with Blok M terminal where public bus stops and TransJakarta’s corridor I Blok M-Kota are.

“I also heard that the MRT will be integrated with Dukuh Atas train station which serves as MRT feeder. [The integration will also be with] Halimun waterway station, bus ways, taxi stands and bus stops,” he said.

As for Fatmawati MRT station, Sutisna added, the place will also have a park and ride facility. Meanwhile, MRT Lebak Bulus station will be an MRT depot and connected to Lebak Bulus terminal.
