VIVAnews - Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono denied recent issue mentioning that he is trying to impair the Indonesian Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Mr Yudhoyono said KPK is still the backbone for any Indonesia's attempts in eradicating corruption.
"It never crosses my mind that I have attempted to impair the institution which has been the heart of corruption eradication. It is really hard to understand that a head of state would spoil an anti-graft commission," said the President during a meeting with several editors-in-chief of Indonesian media on Sunday, Nov 22.
In the past few weeks, most Indonesian media have headlined the case concerning alleged authority misuse which involved two KPK leaders Chandra Hamzah and Bibit Samad Riyanto, which lead into a suspicion that KPK is being impaired. The Indonesian President is seen as not yet imposing a firm action regarding the allegation.
"I have drawn a strong line. I will never go beyond my authority," he said.
However, the President will still reply over the recommendation prepared by the Legal and Fact Verification Team on Bibit and Chandra case today (Delapan Team), Nov 23. "I will state my position on the case," said Mr Yudhoyono.
The Delapan Team called on the President to halt the case involving Bibit and Chandra, to proceed with the probe into Indonesian Police Crime and Investigation Division Chief in terms of Bank Century, to set out personnel reposition in law institutions and to remove case brokers in law institutions.
